Inner Mongolia University of Technology

Inner Mongolia University of Technology (IMUT), situated in Hohhot, the capital city of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (IMAR) which is a northern border area of China, is a multi-disciplinary university with a teaching focus not only on engineering, but on natural science, liberal arts, economics, management, education and art as well. It was founded as Inner Mongolia Institute of Technology in 1951, and renamed Inner Mongolia University of Technology (IMUT) in 1993.The University focuses on undergraduate education, with postgraduate programs being an important part and is eligible to confer doctoral degrees. Now course programs offered by IMUT include 70 bachelor degree programs, 3 first-level disciplines covering 13 second-level disciplines eligible for conferring doctoral degrees, 18 first-level disciplines covering 85 second-level ones for master's degrees. IMUT has attracted a well-structured and well-qualified staff of 2002 members, including 1430 full-time teachers, of whom, 162 are professors, 481 associate professors, 39 PhD program supervisors, 489 master's degree program supervisors. Currently, 27000 full-time students are studying at the university.

IMUT offers a comprehensive group of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in different disciplines including engineering, sciences, liberal arts, economics, management and law. Nine specialties including chemical engineering and technology, processing engineering, solid mechanics, machine design, building and its automation, thermal energy engineering, materials science, industrial catalysis, architectural design and theory and business administration are named noted specialties at the IMAR level. The key lab of wind and solar applications technologies was designated by the Ministry of Education as one of the key laboratories jointly supported by the Ministry and the Autonomous Region. The six regional key labs of industrial catalysis, renewable energy, light metallic materials, electromechanics, material formation and control engineering, green building appraisal have conducted quite a number of corporate R&D projects, thus making great contributions to the new-type industrialization of the Region and promoting the social and economic development of IMAR.

IMUT insist on running the university openly and attach importance to exchanging ideas and cooperating with colleges and university at home and aboard. We have a long-term intercollegiate cooperation with many overseas universities of Mongolia, USA, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Poland, Japan, Russia, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Tajikistan. In 2003, IMUT became one of the universities which carry out the project of “Sino-US 1-2-1 Dual-Degree Program” in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. In 2005 IMUT was approved as one of the universities that are qualified to receive international students sponsored by the Inner Mongolia government scholarship program, and in 2008 by the Ministry of Education as one of the universities that are qualified to receive international students sponsored by the Chinese government scholarship program.

In 2010 the School of International Education of IMUT was founded to better take care of the needs of the international students, in terms of teaching affairs coordination, campus life, Chinese language teaching and Chinese culture study. Currently there are around 200 international students studying at IMUT for bachelor, master or doctor degrees. IMUT attaches great importance to the quality of teaching, and provides superb teaching and living conditions to our international students. IMUT engages a very efficient team to cater to the needs of international students and build up a good program of teaching Chinese as a second language. The international student dormitory is a building converted from a two-star hotel, well furnished with in-room cable TV, telephone, bathroom, public kitchen and public laundry. With good study and living conditions as well as good services, IMUT will provide the international students with the best study and living conditions and make their study and life in China an enjoyable experience.
